After hearing the stories about the district head and the Neighborhood Watch Patrol, I learned that the district head has always been guiding the Neighborhood Watch Patrol and helping the “Linong Neighborhood”, allowing everybody to live here happily without any fears or worries. They have always silently services everybody, tirelessly performing the tasks of school campus guardians, nighttime patrols, and caring guidance officers. Although we cannot help them much, at least we can understand how much effort they put into serving us and be grateful that so many people are silently caring for us, and also be grateful for having the selfless contribution of the Linong Neighborhood Watch.
Q : Why do you want to be the village leader? And what is the greatest sense of achievement?
Linong Village is my hometown, however, there are so many problems about parking, the MRT noise and so on. In order to make our life better, so I involved in election, and win the leadership. After the election we apply to the municipal government, completed the underground parking garage in Linong Park , build the MRT noise wall, and remediation Bahsian Canal, solve those problems in Linong village.
Q : Why establish a patrol team? How to deal the problem of Financing?
2001 September 23th, we combined with some enthusiasts, established the night patrol team, and so far has been about a decade. Because of a lot of professional woman being home late, their security most be concerned, and some people often forget to close the door, so the patrol team will pay attention to road safety at night. The first and greatest goal to set up the patrol team is to maintain the safety of the community.
The source of funding is a big problem, because the government only grants 20,000 dollars, so we purchase of patrol team hats, vests, bicycle ... etc equipment from the incinerator feeback and the primary construction funds.
Q : What is the work contents of patrol team? What events make you impressed?
If there are some major events, the patrol team and volunteer police would help to direct the traffic ; the most important work is: "night patrol", from 21:00 to 23:00, we patrol along the route street to maintain the security of coming home residents.
On one occasion, in the Xi'an Street, a lady was robbed in the evening, she exclaimed: "robbery robbery!", just after the patrol team passed by, they immediately contact the police, and uniform the criminal. On another occasion, we went to Linong Elementary School to arrest a burglary suspect, but he begged forgiveness, so we gave him a new leaf opportunity, let him leave.
Q : All of the village constructions, which one is the most helpful for local citizens? Why?
Improvement of law and public order, coming home late at night would not be worried. Some households have not closed the door, the patrol team will help close it and watch. Looting committed, the probability of crime would be reduced. The greatest improvement since the establishment of the patrol team is that Linong village never flood, they clear the garbage in the river, prevent floods during typhoons.
Q : What is the most intractable problems the patrol team encountered ?
Some tramp slept in Linong Park, some junior high students sabotage in LiNong Elementary School , the patrol team will immediately alert the police and cooperate with them to work together solving those situations. And we will send people to patrol a specific time or specific place.
